To manage your Fantom crypto assets with your Ledger Nano S, you need to start the Fantom FTM application first. If you don't have it installed yet, please see the previous chapter which contains step-by-step installation instructions.
Connect your Ledger Nano S to the PC via USB cable.
Let the device load the main dashboard.
Navigate the dashboard by clicking the left or right button of the device until you find the Fantom FTM application. You need to have the Fantom FTM logo at the centre of the screen along with the application name below.
Click both buttons simultaneously to start the selected application.
The home screen of the application is shown on the Ledger Nano S device to inform you that it's ready to be used to manage your Fantom assets.
On the home screen, you can already see that there are additional hidden pages on both sides of the current screen. This is indicated by the arrows on the left and right side of the screen. To navigate to these hidden screens click the corresponding button, either on the left or right side.
The right-hand click reveals information about the application version. You can use it to verify that you are using the latest version of the application.
On the left side of the home screen is the Quit action, which will take you back to the main Ledger Nano S dashboard. These three screens are cyclical, so if you continue browsing in just one direction, you return to the application's home screen.
Some information presented to you can fit on a single screen. It usually consists of a title explaining the meaning of the information, while the next row shows the corresponding value.
This type of screen does not allow you to navigate to each side. Simultaneously clicking both buttons will dismiss the page.
When the application presents information that is too long to fit in a single screen, it will use a paginated view. This means the app shows only part of the information and indicates that the rest of it is hidden beyond the screen edge. You need to use the left and right navigation to see all of the information.
After checking all available information, you can indicate that you are ready to continue to the next step by simultaneously clicking both buttons on the last page of the paginated text.
An example would be an address verification. Fantom addresses are 42 letters long including the prefix, so you will navigate through 3 pages to see the full address. On the final page you can use a simultaneous click of both buttons to confirm you have verified the whole address.
You may need to confirm your desire to continue or reject the action at the end of sensitive operations. You need to be cautious, especially when you are signing a transaction to send crypto assets to another party. The Fantom FTM application uses a confirmation dialogue for maximum security.
When the confirmation is displayed, you will see a screen showing a positive result option, denoted by a tick. If you want to approve the transaction, just use a simultaneous click of both buttons to confirm the action presented to you.
If you want to reject the action, just navigate to the right. Please note the screen indicates there is another option by showing an arrow on the right side of the screen. There, you will be presented with the rejection screen.
If you want to take this path, just use a simultaneous click on both buttons to inform the Ledger Nano S device that you wish to reject the transaction. You can also return back to the confirmation screen by navigating to the left, as indicated by the arrow.
